At the end of last month, we asked this in one of our Notes:
Slow October is definitely a Thing, especially if history is any indication.
Last year we came up with a week-by-week plan which we called October Downshift in Paris. While the workshops mentioned are out of date at this point, the rest of the info — Ayurvedic rituals, taking care of your sleep, babying your digestion, taking it easy — still holds true. October is a month of magic and transformation, and an apt time to revisit and/or fine-tune your habits so that they carry you into the months ahead. Check out the October Downshifts below (paywall removed for all 3):
OCTOBER TO-DO LIST: FILL UP ON AUTUMN TREASURES
If you missed Anne Vandewalle’s FREE 1-hour online workshop, Detox & Régénération Automnale, the replay is now available until October 31st. In discussing how best to manage autumn Ayurvedically, Anne says that the aim is to vivre cette saison au mieux avec les trésors dont elle regorge. 💚
Some riches to indulge in: Caramelised Onion, Cabbage and Blue Cheese Galette, Mushroom soup with Tofu and Toasted Garlic (10/10 in the low effort/high reward category), or something from Paris chefs Carrie Solomon (still missing her Aube Matin Midi) or Jennifer Hart-Smith…
Make an art and yoga date at Musée d’Art Moderne on Thursday October 17th for a 90-mn class at 18h30. A creative way to look at and embody the art that surrounds you in an environment that naturally encourages contemplation.
Perhaps Thursday’s Super Moon/Hunter’s Moon is just the recipe you need to release into relaxation? In that case, head to Zen & Sounds which has an entire Gong Bath calendar tuned to the moon’s cycles. Sound baths may not wash away your worries (gift article), but they have been shown to reduce tension and anxiety.
Learn to meditate! This 4-day Vedic Meditation course from October 17th to the 20th with Tanya Dyhin will teach you a simple technique that chips away at long-held stress and results in a defragging of your mind. For my birthday, I offered myself a Rounding course with Tanya and it was delicious.
Enjoy a cultural outing specially designed for adults and kids ages 5 and up: Matinée Yog’Art on Sunday October 20th with our friend Ulrika Dezé at Centre Pompidou. No experience necessary!
LOOKING AHEAD TO NOVEMBER
As part of his Comfort book launch, Yotam Ottolenghi will be in Paris speaking at Casino de Paris on Friday November 8th. I have two tickets for sale! If you’re interested, please get in touch 🤝
