Welcome to Yogateau: Do Yoga in Paris
A newsletter featuring yoga and meditation ideas—both traditional and unconventional—in Paris and beyond with recs for finding your Om Away from Home
A wee bit of background…
Yogateau used to be a fully-tricked out website with a calendar of Paris yoga and meditation workshops, events, trainings and retreats and a constantly updated list and map of studios. The workload nearly killed me so now it’s a newsletter.
Why a newsletter? Why now?
It’s a bit of a full circle moment: Before Yogateau was a website, it was an email. So this is, in a way, a return to our roots. Without going into a long explanation (which is posted here, if you have that kind of time) the reasons for this change are manifold:
The website and its features became nearly impossible to maintain
I had to rely on outside revenue to finance the site, something which resulted in partnerships which weren’t 100% aligned with Yogateau’s values
As our online audience migrated to Instagram, I increased our efforts on social channels but any attempt to “game” the algorithm and ranking system was met with anemic engagement and posts were buried
By returning to a newsletter format, I want to double-down on Yogateau’s mission which is to share what makes practicing in Paris and the rest of Europe so unique: not just lovely spaces and teachers, but a point of view that includes pleasure, beauty and diverse expression.
Community is what it‘s all about
Part of what’s missing from web platforms and social media channels is community. Being able to gather in one place, be near one another, to chat or ask questions is how yoga developed. Upanishad in Sanskrit means “sitting down near”, a reference to the way students used to sit near their teachers in order to learn.
I want this iteration of Yogateau to be Upanishad-ish: a place of learning and dialogue so we can continue growing together. This will be one of the new features.
What you can expect
The Yogateau: Do Yoga in Paris newsletter is sent out regularly (schedule TBD.) It highlights hand-picked yoga and meditation workshops, events, trainings and retreats, shopping tips, product recommendations etc. The newsletter in its form and content offers an untraditional (depends on your tradition, I guess) perspective on what it means to be a modern yogi in this rapidly changing world. Yogateau will touch on subjects not often broached in a 60- or 90-mn class as well as provide insider info on where to have a massage or get the best coffee and things like that :)
Our promise
We promise not to clog your inbox so go ahead and subscribe! If you enjoy it, please share the love with your family and friends.
