Yoga work exchange, R&B Yoga and the launch of 2 FREE yoga-adjacent run clubs in Paris

I don’t know about you but I am very happy that the trend for bodycon, tight-fitting yoga clothes is slackening its grip and that I’m seeing more and more yoga students in off-duty dancer looks than in UES Ladies in Lycra. West Village Girl matchy-match vibes notwithstanding, it definitely feels like there’s a movement afoot in Paris and elsewhere to emphasize comfort and ease, over looking hot.
Of course, it also depends on the yoga studio you attend. At the Vinyasa class I took at Baba Yoga Social Club over the weekend, there were a few crop tops with leggings, but only one coordinated “set.” The rest of us were doing our yoga in a combination of baggy t-shirts, shorts or sweats. Are people dressing to impress at luxury gyms and wellness centers like Blanche or Heimat?
Which begs the question(s)…
Is this a return to a more rootsy kind of yoga where appearance matters less than how you feel? Is this the convergence of an outdoor aesthetic with an indoor activity? Or is this just the continued influence of streetwear? Could it be, as the New York Times claims, the generational shift between tight-on-tight and tight-on-baggy? Or something to do with upcycling or pressing your existing wardrobe into workout service?
As long as it’s not balletcore — ugh, don’t even get me started on how dumb this trend is! — I’m fine with this (r)evolution.
